Why your morning Routine might be Ruining Your Life
Have you ever followed a morning routine so critically, and end up feeling unaccomplished by the end of the day? Then this article is for you.
Table Of Content
Today, we have popular self-help books like The 5 AM Club by Robert Sharma and The Miracle Morning. These books all demonstrate the different ways we should organize our mornings to increase our chances of having a productive day.
On the comparison side of it, these self-help books’ negative impact cannot be left out. Although they have done more good than harm, as they have created awareness on how productive mornings can be.
In this article, we are going to discuss why your morning routines might be a hindrance in the pursuit of personal development. Each case will be aligned with real-life examples.
The Famous Copy and Paste System
Each self-help book comes with an Author’s routine. For example 5:00 AM club, Sharwama tells us about waking up at 5:00 AM. Now, many folks try to exactly follow this author’s routine blindly with the hope that it can work for them too.
John, an IT guy at MTN, decided to wake up at 5:00 AM every day, yet he goes to bed at 2:00 AM. After a few days, help lost gas to be executed. The reason he felt drained and exhausted is that he works till 11:00 PM and goes to bed late. Therefore, following the author’s exact plan did not fit his schedule, and he had to create his relationship with the authors.
What we learn from this is that we have to use the knowledge from the author instead of following them blindly. Create a morning routine that fits your schedule. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a copy and paste because, at the end of the day, it’s you and your energy.
Mistaking Productivity for Performance
Have you ever woken up early and still felt like you wasted your morning? This happens when you fail to plan a proper morning or when you jump into an idea that doesn’t suit you.
Consider a photographer whose clients park in the evenings after work. After he read that successful CEOs open their business at 6:00 AM, he started opening at that time. Later on, he got frustrated that he had to wait until 2:00 PM for his customers to come.
Instead, he would have implemented it in such a way that fits his job. For example, he handles exits in the mornings when customers are few. Failure to identify this killed his productivity. So, when implementing systems, make sure they suit our job.
Guilt: A thief of gratitude.
Another effect of blindly following self-help routines is guilt. It happens in many ways, for example, let’s say you delay your way up time by 3 hours. This can create a feeling of loss on the day before it starts.
This guilt piles up to create a self-identity shift where, after failing to wake up multiple times in a row, you start calling yourself lazy. This guilt can cause you to give up on your long-term goals after all, you will feel unfit for them.
Conclusion
I have met very many people on the internet who confessed to giving up on personal development because of information they attained from a self-help book blindly and failing to implement it into their own lives, paths, careers, and routines.
