Table Of Content
Did you know that behind every successful person is a string of different kinds of support. In this article, we are going to discuss the different forms of support and why they matters with real life examples.
Forms of Support
As I shared in the introduction, support is of many forms. It can show up as just listening to a friend’s hard times, lending a friend financial aid, or opening the door for a stranger. Nevertheless, these are the major categories of support.
1. Practical Support
This involves physical interactions and aids in tasks and errands. For example, consider a breastfeeding mother who wants to take her baby for immunisation. If she is using public means of transport, support can be shown by helping open the door for her or breaking taxi seats.
2. Emotional Support
This nature of support can be shown in different ways. For example, offering a listening ear without judgment to a friend’s or a stranger’s story. It can also be shown as comforting someone, validating their feelings, or even just being present in silence.

3. Psychological Support
In the pursuit of our goals and growth in work and life, motivation runs out. In this case, psychological support can come in to fill the void. It can be shown by sharing words of encouragement and motivation. For example, reminding someone why they started and why they should keep going. When setbacks show up, you can show support by reassuring them and reminding them that they are not alone.
4. Financial Support
In these financial times, almost everyone experiences hits here and there. You can offer financial support by helping someone with money, e.g. a friend who is behind on rent reaches out to you for support. Sorting this bill as they get back to their job is absolute kindness.
5. Spiritual Support
Sharing prayers, hope, and words of encouragement with friends, family, or strangers who need them is another way of showing support.
Why support matters and its impact
All the different kinds of support are equally important.
- Emotional support can help with a reduction in anxiety and loneliness as the person will feel understood and not alone.
- In careers, support boosts confidence and resilience in the pursuit of our goals.
- In talent, support helps people go after their goals with meaning.
- In relationships, support builds trust and confidence in one another.

Many people and companies came out to support this young boy in his dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. They offered different kinds of support, like paying his tuition, buying his requirements, and a promise of a job after school. These different forms of support changed Suubi’s life, and the story magnifies the concept of support right before us.
