In the pursuit of our dreams and goals, we encounter numerous highs and lows. Some are so threatening to a point that we just want to give up. Some are moderate challenges within our capacity that fuel us to push more. Some are joyous moments that help us express gratitude for our efforts.
In this article, I want to focus on the lows that we majorly encounter in the pursuit of our goals and their causes.
1. Self-Doubt
Have you ever picked up an activity, for example, getting in shape? Then later on, you start doubting your ability to hit the gym or monitor your calories. That happens to most of us. When starting out something, how you talk to yourself matters. You are supposed to silence the negative self-talk, only that way can you unlock self-development.
2. Fear of the unknown
Sometimes we sabotage our progress because we fear the unknown. We don’t know what can come out of our efforts, hence our minds relapse into the comfort zone. When pushing our goals, we are heading to somewhere we have not been before. Therefore, we have to be easy with our mental capacity, and let it steadily grow into the newer version we are taking on.
3. Lack of visualization
One major step that can prevent someone from reaching their maximum potential is the failure to visualize what they want to achieve. This obstacle prevents you from trying to analyze how the process may go. One tool for achieving our goals is visualization, so you have to imagine the person you are aiming to become. For example, if you want to start jogging, you should visualize yourself as a fit person.
4. Failure to learn from the process
When taking on a new career or path, you have to let yourself learn and not beat yourself up so much, since you are trying to grow into someone you have not been before. Growth comes with its challenges and is not linear, but if you let yourself learn from the process, you can accelerate your growth.
5. Lack of support
In one of our articles about support, we explored the benefits of support in personal development and chasing our goals. Sometimes, lack of support, be it emotional, financial, or social, can be a limiting factor in the pursuit of our goals. As humans, we are majorly social creatures and thrive better in supportive environments, as you never have to carry the burden alone. Asking for help is not a weakness; it’s a sign that you are letting yourself acquire the resources to make your life better.
